"Helping couples to renew their marriage, family and faith"
Marriage Encounter New England is a Pro-marriage Movement within the Catholic Church. Marriage Encounter originated through the experience of twelve Catholic couples and Fr. Gabriel Calvo, a Jesuit priest in the 1960's. The primary root for their experience was the challenge of the Word of God. The other roots were the signs of the times, the teachings of the Catholic Church and the desire of couples to live marriage within the Plan of God and to bring this new way of life into their family.
Our ultimate goal is to assist couples in discovering their marriage in the Plan of God through ongoing mutual trust and dialogue. This unique method of dialogue means both prayerful, personal reflection and mutual sharing of the reflection leading to the enrichment of the marital relationship and the growth of the man and woman as individuals as well as a couple. It is our hope that by doing this we can change the world, a world which cannot be remade without responsible married couples who have the importance of God's Plan for their marriage as their focus.
Another part of our mission is to continue to renew each couple's experience with follow up resources and community. Each couple and religious that has attended the Marriage Encounter weekend is given the opportunity to reach their goals with other couples in a community that is focussed on the importance of their marriage and the strengthening of each couple's spirituality.
The Philosophy of Marriage Encounter New England is " Open in one Relationship is Open in all Relationships". "Marriage, Family, Faith and God are Relationships". Assiting couples to strengthen their marital relationship will ultimately strengthen them all.
