                            What is a Marriage Encounter?

Marriage Encounter is a personal experience which enriches marriage and helps a couple to strenghten their relationship through improved communication.

  Marriage Encounter is a weekend experience for all married couples who consider their marriage good.  It is interfaith and for couples from all economic, sociologic and demographical backgrounds.  It is not a retreat.

                            Who should attend?

The purpose of attending is, to restore romance and intimacy, to gain better understanding and acceptance, to explore new growth, to open hearts and to give our values a chance to stengthen in the hope that we can deal with the negative influences of the world today.

A series of presentations are given by married couples and clergy.  During these presentations they share their personal life experiences  acting as catalysts.  A communication technique is taught and used throughout the weekend.   After each presentation there is a question given to the couples. Each couple uses the technique just learned and privately discusses their own personal reflections on the question with their spouse.

                            What does the weekend do for our children?

The weekend helps each couple to recognize that, unless they live intimately and united, their children cannot imitate their values nor can they be influenced by how to live in relationship with others.  It helps kids to learn how to communicate as well.

Each couple has to evaluate what trouble means.  If a marriage is stale, complacent or minorly disillusioned, marriage encounter is right for them.  If a couple is separated, indifferent or very troubled by alcohol, drugs, abuse or a third party, this marriage needs to seek counselling.

Marriage encounter encourages contacting the registration couple to seek help with evaluating if the weekend is for them.

A  non-refundable deposit is required. On Sunday, after the experience of the weekend, a total cost for lodging, meals and incidentals is given during a brief presentation.  Each couple is then asked to donate whatever they can to help defray the total cost of their weekend.  Our goal is to have every couple experience the marriage encounter weekend regardless of their financial situation.
